DNV Energy Systems is seeking a Project Manager with a strong technical background in wind, solar, storage, and/or practical experience with project financing for our Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Advisory Services team. Join us!

Our M&A team operates at the cutting edge of the renewables industry providing technical due diligence and advisory services to diverse customers in the North American market, primarily in support of M&A transactions such as purchases, sales, and refinancing of projects and platforms. Our technical work contributes to the efficient functioning of the equity markets which are increasingly driving renewable energy penetration in North America.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing project management and technical advisory services in support of customer M&A transactions. You will contribute to a high performing team by delivering customer value, fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and identifying opportunities for team growth and improvement.

The preferred location for this role would be based out of any of our current advisory markets including Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; San Diego or Oakland, CA; Austin, Houston or Dallas, TX; Medford, MA; and Toronto or Montreal, Canada. This position may based out of any DNV US or Canada office.

What you'll do

  • Leverage experience, expertise, and creative thought to deliver customer-centric technical analysis for solar, wind, and storage projects. Typical scopes include evaluation of project risks and upside potential through:
  • Review of key project contracts describing interconnection, revenue, construction, and operations and maintenance
  • Validation of technical inputs in project financial models including estimation and review of construction and operating costs
  • Review of project designs and technologies
  • Operational evaluations including site inspections and interviews (both on-site and virtual), and review of operating history and asset management approach; and
  • Industry benchmarking analyses and development stage project screening studies.
  • Prioritize QHSE considerations within the team to ensure safe execution and healthy work environment.
  • Lead overall project management and customer communication as the key point of contact for the execution of due diligence engagements.
  • Coordinate technical reviews among internal specialists including the civil and electrical engineering, energy assessment, technology, and permitting teams.
  • Perform portions of the due diligence reviews, including contract and financial model review, as well as other technical analysis (e.g. technology review, energy assessment) within the candidate's expertise.
  • Discuss and resolve technical issues in partnership with transaction stakeholders, including coordination of input on such issues from internal technical specialists, as necessary.
  • Lead the reporting process, including writing, editing, and synthesizing inputs from technical disciplines into technical due diligence reports.
  • Develop winning proposals for scopes of services related to due diligence work, including creative tailoring and sequencing of work to meet budget and timeline requirements.
  • Support customers through the financial closings of projects.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts for the M&A team, such as tool development, process refinement, internal training, and lessons learned activities.
  • Adhere to the DNV system for quality management, including liaising with QHSE leadership on developing procedures, instructions, guidelines, and checklists in order to ensure quality of services produced by the M&A team.

Position Qualifications

What is Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, energy systems, environmental science, business, or closely related field from accredited four-year university (advanced degree in engineering or business preferred)
  • 3+ years of applicable work experience, including 2+ years demonstrable experience in the solar, wind, storage, or energy industry in North America
  • Knowledge of the renewable energy project lifecycle and associated items which may include project contracts (EPC, equipment procurement, IA, PPA, etc), technology and design, energy production assessments and performance, financial modeling and economics (CapEx and OpEx), operations and performance, transmission/curtailment considerations, and common technical risks
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background 

What is preferred

  • Strong understanding of the North American energy market.
  • Previous exposure to project financing and working knowledge of project finance fundamentals, transaction mechanics, and financial closing processes.
  • Leadership talent, strong team orientation, and the ability to collaborate, motivate and lead by way of example.
  • Strong technical and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to customer centricity, and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with customers.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with diverse customers and co-workers.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to succeed within a dynamic team environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Possession of a current driver's license.
  • Regular domestic and international travel to customer offices and sites, other office locations, and conferences, up to approximately 20% of the time.
